Owner and founder of the Leicestershire Craft Centre, Katharine has been crafting since she was seven and her mum taught her to knit – her first handmade gift was a knitted egg cosy for her Grandpa. She continued to knit and sew all through her childhood making dresses for her high school dances, and knitting jumpers for friends while at university.
Katharine has a degree in English Literature and a Masters in Business Administration and has had a wide variety of different jobs. However after taking a career break to have her three children, she has rediscovered her love of crafting and creating and is loving passing on this passion to others.
Dressmaking and patchwork are Katharine’s particular favourites, but she also teaches knitting, crochet, glass fusion, embroidery, weaving and felting, art for well-being and loves to try her hand at other crafts such as silversmithing.
Katharine has taught workshops at a variety of national Craft Events including The Festival of Quilts, The Handmade Festival and Malvern Quilt Festival. She is currently appearing as a Guest Demonstrator on Sewing Street TV and is developing a range of sewing and dressmaking patterns.

Project Description
The retreat will focus on one main project: sewing a bespoke Liberty fabric waistcoat under the expert guidance of Kerrie Padmore, founder of Living in Loveliness, and Katharine Wright owner of Leicestershire Craft Centre.
Kerrie is known for her beautiful patchwork designs, while Katharine is celebrated for her highly accessible Top Stitch Makes brand of dressmaking patterns including these beautiful Waistcoats. Having taught side by side for many years, they bring a wonderful blend of experience, creativity, and warmth to their classes, making this project both inspiring and enjoyable.
As part of this experience, you’ll be able to choose your fabrics from a curated selection of pre-cut Liberty squares, lovingly prepared by Kerrie. With the cutting already done for you, you can simply enjoy the creative process, mixing stunning Liberty prints with your favourite coordinating fabrics to design something truly personal. You’ll also have the choice of a shorter or longer waistcoat style, allowing you to create a piece that perfectly suits your taste.
Throughout the retreat, Kerrie and Katharine will guide you through every step, offering expert techniques and plenty of creative inspiration. By the end, you’ll have made a beautiful, bespoke waistcoat that you’ll be excited to wear and proud to say you sewn by yourself.
Evening Bonus: Slow-Stitching Relaxation Project
After a full day of creating, unwind with our slow-stitching relaxation kit after the evening meal. This is a chance to relax, hand sew, and chat with fellow attendees in a calm, creative atmosphere.
These slow-stitching projects can even use leftover fabric from your main waistcoat project, allowing you to extend your creativity and take home an additional, beautifully personal piece.
